Vanessa Isaac Dance Company
Bach and Bachianas
At the Santa Barbara Museum of Art
In Partnership with the Santa Barbara Symphony
Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887–1959) was a Brazilian composer who skillfully combined Brazilian folk music with classical traditions. His deep admiration for Johann Sebastian Bach is evident in his Bachianas Brasileiras, where he fused Baroque forms with Brazilian rhythms and harmonies. This unique blend made Villa-Lobos a key figure in 20th-century music.
As a Latin artist, Villa-Lobos’s influence extended globally, inspiring countless musicians and composers. His ability to merge diverse influences has inspired many musicians globally. Villa-Lobos's music fuels my creativity, shaping new dance works for the Vanessa Isaac Dance Company that reflect his bold spirit and the rich cultural tradition he championed.
